Calvary Hospital is a 360 bed, six storey public and private hospital located in the northern suburbs of Canberra. When the hospital underwent significant renovation and extension, Holmes Fire provided fire engineering to address non-compliances with the Building Code Deemed-to-Satisfy Provisions.
Holmes Fire’s initial scope was to assess the new and existing portions of the building against the building code to identify potential areas of non-compliance. Subsequently, justification of excessive compartment sizes was provided to avoid the need for additional fire separations to be incorporated into the design, and allowance for extended travel distances and smoke doors that swing against the direction of egress was also incorporated. Holmes Fire also advocated to the ACT Fire Brigade to retain existing fire hydrants and fire hose reels in non-compliant locations.Read the case study
